Response to SQA’s SVQ Review Consultation
The Scottish Qualifications Authority undertook a review to determine whether SVQs continue to meet the needs and experiences of stakeholders.
Enginuity provided a response noting that:
- The 1:1 relationship between SVQs and NOS should be amended to make SVQs more flexible (focussed on a core and options approach), while ensuring SVQs remain up-to-date and are closely aligned to the needs of industry,
- Rules should be put in place to ensure that SVQs remains predominantly competency based,
- End-tests should be removed in almost all circumstances, and
- Constraints in qualification structures should be removed and greater focus placed on flexible content and choices. This is especially important to make SVQs more conducive to upskilling.
SQA published its report on the findings from phase 1 of its review.
