Response to SQA’s SVQ Review Consultation

The Scottish Qualifications Authority undertook a review to determine whether SVQs continue to meet the needs and experiences of stakeholders.  

Enginuity provided a response noting that: 

• The 1:1 relationship between SVQs and NOS should be amended to make SVQs more flexible (focussed on a core and options approach), while ensuring SVQs remain up-to-date and are closely aligned to the needs of industry,  
• Rules should be put in place to ensure that SVQs remains predominantly competency based,  
• End-tests should be removed in almost all circumstances, and 
• Constraints in qualification structures should be removed and greater focus placed on flexible content and choices. This is especially important to make SVQs more conducive to upskilling.
