Response to SQA’s SVQ review consultation

The Scottish Qualifications Authority undertook a review to determine whether SVQs continue to meet the needs and experiences of stakeholders.  

Enginuity provided a response noting that: 

• the 1:1 relationship between SVQs and NOS should be amended to make SVQs more flexible (focussed on a core and options approach), while ensuring SVQs remain up-to-date and are closely aligned to the needs of industry  
• rules should be put in place to ensure that SVQs remains predominantly competency based  
• end-tests should be removed in almost all circumstances
• constraints in qualification structures should be removed and greater focus placed on flexible content and choices. This is especially important to make SVQs more conducive to upskilling.
