Grace Peckett, a Mechatronics Apprentice at Amazon, has been announced as the winner of this year’s Enginuity Skills Awards Trophy Design Competition. She is part of the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) Training Apprenticeship Programme.
Her design will be manufactured by FANUC, an industrial automation specialist, and presented to the winners at the Enginuity Skills Awards 2025 later this year. The MTC and FANUC, both supporters of the Enginuity Skills Awards 2025, partnered with Enginuity to run this trophy design competition.
Now a key part of the annual Enginuity Skills Awards, the competition invites apprentices from across the UK to create a trophy that reflects the spirit of modern engineering.
Participants are challenged to design a trophy that is not only visually exciting but also demonstrates an understanding of manufacturing processes, combining theory and creativity into a tangible product. Designs are judged based on appearance, representation of UK engineering, and their potential for realistic manufacturing.
The trophy will be produced using industry-grade processes, showcasing the winning apprentice’s understanding of manufacturability and design for production. Grace commented, “I’m excited to see my manufactured design, especially since I requested a mirrored polish for the final product. Seeing it in person will be amazing. I wanted to think outside the box and create a unique trophy form.
“I also wanted to show my personality into the trophy, so I designed a natural form that reflects the idea that what’s on the outside is just as important as what’s on the inside in engineering.”
Before joining Amazon as a Fulfilment Associate in 2020, Grace earned her Master’s in Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University. In 2024, she secured a place as an Amazon Mechatronics Engineer Apprentice in the MTC Training Apprenticeship Programme.
Mandeep Sandhu, Sector Engagement Lead at Enginuity, added, “At Enginuity, we believe that collaboration is key. We are always looking for new ways to close the skills gap in engineering and manufacturing because we know that no one can do it alone.
“With this in mind, we brought MTC and FANUC together to work on this exciting competition. We hope that participants have been able to bring their learning experiences to life through their trophy designs.”
Each year, the Enginuity Skills Awards celebrates the teams and individuals who inspire and empower the next generation of talent in the engineering and manufacturing sectors, creating a culture of innovation, diversity, and collaboration.
The 2025 Enginuity Skills Awards will take place at the Park Plaza London Riverbank on Thursday, July 3, where winners in various categories will receive Grace’s trophy.
