Engagement Team in Action: South August update

This past month has been all about celebrating vocational education and the incredible opportunities it creates for people, businesses and communities.

Vocational Celebrational Day

The month kicked off in Cornwall for Vocational Celebration Day, hosted by Teagle. It was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate apprentices and vocational learners from across the country, while recognising the many different routes people take into successful and rewarding careers.

What stood out most was the diversity of apprentices and their experiences. There is no single journey into vocational education and hearing the different stories behind how people discovered and chose their pathways was a powerful reminder of why these opportunities are so important. The event also highlighted the fantastic work being done to bring together employers, education providers and the wider community in Cornwall, creating a strong and supportive environment for future talent.

T Level Results Day

I also attended T Level Results Day at the London Design & Engineering UTC as part of our ongoing work with Gatsby. It was exciting to hear directly from learners about their experiences, particularly the stories from industry placements. Some students had even had the opportunity to complete placements abroad, demonstrating the breadth of experiences that vocational pathways can provide.

There were also some fantastic examples of progression, with learners moving on to both apprenticeships and degrees, alongside strong results and a high pass rate across subjects. It was encouraging to see how T Levels are continuing to open doors and provide young people with multiple options for their futures.

Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards

Alongside these events, I have also been busy judging entries for the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards. These awards shine a light on diversity across vocational education and celebrate the people and organisations helping to make opportunities more accessible across every sector.

The entries have been incredibly inspiring. Even through the judging process, I have learned so much about the different ways people discover apprenticeships and the personal journeys that lead them to choose vocational education. Every story reinforces the importance of ensuring that everyone can see a route into a career that works for them.

Summary

Vocational education has a vital role to play in building the workforce of the future. Whether through apprenticeships, T Levels or other technical pathways, these routes provide people with the skills, confidence and opportunities they need to succeed.

At Enginuity, closing the skills gap in engineering and manufacturing is what we work towards every day. Celebrating vocational education and the people who champion it is an important part of that mission, and it has been inspiring to spend the past month seeing first-hand the difference these opportunities can make.
