With only 3 weeks to go until the UK's first Vocational Celebration Day on Thursday 6 August, broadcaster and former apprentice Steph McGovern is encouraging learners, employers and educators across the UK to get involved and celebrate vocational achievement.
Already a passionate advocate for technical education, Steph will host a special live edition of Steph on Skills: Powered by Enginuity, broadcasting from 10am at Teagle Machinery Ltd in Truro, Cornwall, as part of the nationwide celebrations.
Steph champions vocational learning
In a new video supporting the campaign, Steph highlights why the day matters and why vocational learners deserve greater recognition.
She says: "I'm obsessed with the fact that we don't celebrate vocational training like we do A Levels or GCSEs or uni. So the good people at Enginuity have decided to do something about it. On August 6 we're going to be celebrating everyone doing vocational qualifications, no matter what they are. So come and be part of the party."
Vocational Celebration Day has been created by Enginuity and EAL to recognise vocational learners, apprentices, employers, educators and everyone championing technical skills across the UK. The campaign aims to shine a spotlight on the vital contribution vocational education makes to individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
A long-standing partnership
Steph has worked closely with Enginuity to champion skills and engineering careers. Alongside hosting the Steph on Skills: Powered by Enginuity podcast, she has supported initiatives that inspire more people to pursue technical careers, including lending her name to the Steph McGovern Women in Engineering Scholarship at Teesside University, helping encourage more women into engineering.
Her continued support reflects a shared commitment to raising the profile of vocational education and celebrating the people building the skills the UK needs for the future.
Join the live celebration
The live broadcast on 6 August will bring together learners, employers, educators and sector leaders from across the UK, featuring inspiring learner stories, conversations with employers investing in skills, insights from educators and special guests, alongside celebrations taking place across the country.
Whether you're an employer, training provider, college, school or learner, there are plenty of ways to get involved. Organisations can host events, celebrate learners and apprentices, showcase career opportunities or share success stories, while individuals can join the conversation on social media using #VocationalCelebrationDay and #CelebrateVocational.
Don't forget to download the free Vocational Celebration Day toolkit and join us on Thursday 6 August, as we celebrate the people, pathways and skills powering the UK's future.
