Why is welding so important?

Welding is more than just joining metal, it’s the spark behind innovation, and the foundation of infrastructure worldwide. At Enginuity, we recognise the key role that skilled welders play in keeping industries moving, from aerospace and automotive to energy and construction. But with a growing skills gap, the need to support and train the next generation has never been greater.

The UK faces a critical shortage of welders, so we’re stepping up. As the official WorldSkills UK 2025 Welding Competition sponsor, we’re backing young talent, fuelling excellence, and inspiring young people through national and international competitions.

We’re also igniting conversations. In the first episode of Steph on Skills: Powered by Enginuity, host Steph McGovern sat down with CEO Ann Watson and award-winning welder Mel Stewart to explore Mel’s journey, the challenges she conquered as a women in welding, the adversities she faced, how she overcame them and why welding is a career with limitless potential.
