SME Advisory Group

To ensure that our research, policy work and charitable projects reflect the views and needs of small and medium-sized employers we’ve created an SME Advisory Group. This is made up of members drawn from the many industries that make up the UK’s engineering and manufacturing sector.

Project details

Why are we doing this project?

Enginuity aims to be the "sector connector" for engineering and manufacturing by ensuring employers, particularly SMEs, have access to the skills and talent they need now and in the future. SMEs face acute challenges in accessing the right skills and talent, and this project seeks to address those issues by amplifying their voice with government, education, and other stakeholders. This advisory group will play a key role in shaping Enginuity's strategy to support SMEs.

About the project

This advisory group consists of senior representatives from SME organisations, offering sector insights to guide Enginuity’s strategy and charitable focus. The group’s purpose is to inform Enginuity’s board of trustees and executive team, ensuring that Enginuity’s activities, products, and services meet the evolving needs of SMEs within the engineering and manufacturing sectors. It also aims to build a champion network of SMEs to help advocate for skills development.

Project status

The SME Advisory Group is actively shaping Enginuity’s efforts to support SMEs in the engineering and manufacturing sector.

Since its establishment, the advisory group has provided valuable insights into the skills and education landscape, particularly how changes impact SMEs. Meetings have been held to identify initiatives and investments that Enginuity can consider to support the SME community. This engagement has helped ensure that Enginuity’s products and services align with the specific needs of SMEs.

Looking ahead, the advisory group will continue to offer strategic guidance on emerging skills challenges and collaborate with Enginuity to develop new initiatives that support SMEs. The group will also work on expanding the SME advocate network, increasing the visibility of skills development opportunities, and enhancing engagement with educational institutions and government.
