We actively participate in several sector and industry forums, working with engineering and manufacturing employers to represent their needs. In these groups, we contribute to skills strategies, collaborate on key policy issues, and pilot new approaches to address critical shared skills challenges.

We invest in new approaches to occupational and skills data, and work with industries from across the engineering and manufacturing sector to:

Provide insights and recommendations on the skills that are increasingly in demand in the engineering and manufacturing sector, and related industries, so businesses, sectors and the government can plan ahead
Help businesses across the UK's four nations in the engineering and manufacturing sector, and related industries, better understand the implications of skills, and education policy developments
Influence skills and education policy on behalf of engineering and manufacturing employers, as well as the sector’s current and future workforce
Tackle shared cross-sector skills challenges together.

Forums we are part of

National Manufacturing Skills Taskforce

The National Manufacturing Skills Task Force brings together organisations from across the breadth of the UK’s manufacturing sector. Its members also represent both manufacturing employers and the individuals who work for them.

Aerospace Growth Partnership Skills Working Group

The Aerospace Growth Partnership Skills Working Group focuses on helping to deliver the high-level skills the UK aerospace industry needs to meet current and future growth opportunities, and secure the UK’s competitive position in the global aerospace market.

Automotive Council Skills Working Group

The Automotive Council, with senior industry and government figures, enhances dialogue and cooperation. It's Skills Working Group ensures the UK automotive industry has the skilled workforce needed for growth and a net-zero transition.

UK Shipbuilding Skills Taskforce

Through our former Head of Policy and Partnerships, we were a member of the UK Shipbuilding Skills Taskforce (UKSST), an independent group established by the Department for Education in response to the national shipbuilding strategy refresh (2022).

Engineering, Automotive, Aerospace and Aviation Science Employer Boards - Wales

Cardiff and Vale College (CAVC) is one of the five largest colleges in the UK and is the lead provider of apprenticeships in Wales. CAVC is committed to meeting current and future skills needs by partnering with employers of all sizes and proactively using market intelligence to inform provision.

Industry Wales

Industry Wales is the trading name of Sector Development Welsh Partnership Ltd, a company wholly owned by the Welsh Government that was set up to advise on the development of economic policy and planning in Wales.

Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Sectoral Partnership

In Northern Ireland, Sectoral Partnerships review and develop the content of all youth traineeship and apprenticeship frameworks from level two to level eight, to ensure that all those involved in training are industry-ready.

Electrification Skills Network

The Electrification Skills Network (ESN) seeks to enable the understanding of electrification skills aligned with industry needs. It offers valuable insights, provides a reliable benchmark for quality assurance, and facilitates collaboration for a resilient and competitive future.

Hydrogen Skills Alliance

The Hydrogen Skills Alliance (HSA), is a UK-wide initiative dedicated to ensuring that industry and stakeholders have access to the appropriate skills needed to accelerate the transition to hydrogen.
