The Science and Technology Committee (Lords) conducted an inquiry into people and skills in UK STEM to consider whether the UK has a sufficiently skilled workforce to become a “science and technology superpower”, and to determine what policies can be implemented to develop and retain skills in the UK workforce. The Committee issued a call for written evidence and took oral evidence from September 2022.
Enginuity made a submission to the inquiry on 6 September 2022 providing evidence on:
- the skills gap in STEM
- the role of cultural influences in increasing the uptake of STEM careers
- methods to encourage highly skilled people into STEM teaching
- the importance of STEM careers information in schools.
The Committee set out the findings of the Inquiry in a letter from the Chair of the Committee, Baroness Brown of Cambridge, to George Freeman, the Minister for Science, Research and Innovation.
