Project details

Why are we doing this project?

The engineering sector faces a skills gap, especially among SMEs struggling to attract talent, while schools find it hard to keep up with rapid technological advancements. Many students lack awareness of STEM careers and visible role models. Enspire City aims to bridge this gap by introducing key engineering concepts and showcasing diverse career opportunities.

About the project

Enspire City is a free interactive platform where young people aged 8-14 can safely explore a futuristic virtual city, featuring real-world examples of engineering careers and showcasing engineers who are making a positive impact by promoting greener, more sustainable futures. The virtual city highlights sectors like vertical farming, automotive, aerospace, and space, as well as highlighting pathways into various STEM careers.

Project status

Enspire City was launched in November 2023, featuring key sectors and interactive activities to engage students.

Enspire City is accessible through a dedicated website, featuring videos and demo trailers to demonstrate its functionality and engage students. Designed to align with UK curriculums, UN Sustainability Goals and the Gatsby Benchmarks, Enspire City also includes presentations and supporting resources for facilitators delivering sessions.

We are now in the process of actively marketing and promoting the resource to schools, careers hubs, STEM organisations, and alternative provision, including SEND schools and hospital schools. This outreach aims to broaden the tool’s reach and ensure students from diverse backgrounds have access to this valuable STEM resource.
