Project details

Why are we doing this?

We started this project to give apprentices practical experience in applied engineering and manufacturing by involving them in a real-world design-to-production project.

About the project

The Enginuity Skills Awards celebrate the individuals and organisations shaping the future of UK engineering and manufacturing. Categories include apprentices, skills champions, and innovators across the sector.

As part of the Enginuity Skills Awards, MTC apprentices were invited to design the official award trophies, which were manufactured by FANUC UK. These trophies were presented live on stage during the black-tie ceremony, photographed and filmed throughout the evening, and used to promote future awards.

Project status

Now a key part of the annual Enginuity Skills Awards, the competition invited apprentices from across the UK to create a trophy that reflects the spirit of modern engineering, which were given to winners on 3 July 2025.

Participants were challenged to design a trophy that is not only visually exciting but also demonstrates an understanding of manufacturing processes, combining theory and creativity into a tangible product. Designs were judged based on appearance, representation of UK engineering, and their potential for realistic manufacturing.

Grace Peckett, a Mechatronics Apprentice at Amazon, was announced as the winner of this year’s Enginuity Skills Awards Trophy Design Competition. She is part of the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) Training Apprenticeship Programme. The trophy was produced using industry-grade processes, showcasing the winning apprentice’s understanding of manufacturability and design for production.
