Project details

Why are we doing this project?

By amplifying the voices of young women already thriving in engineering through a mix of day-in-the-life video content and interviews, Girls Gone STEM helps widen the talent pipeline and strengthen community support for those entering and staying in STEM. This helps challenge stereotypes around who engineering is “for,” broadens perceptions of career pathways, and builds community.

About the project

Girls Gone STEM is an active, apprentice-led digital outreach project that has successfully moved from concept to delivery, demonstrating early impact and strong audience engagement. Since launching on National Manufacturing Day, the initiative has established a clear presence on TikTok, using authentic, peer-led content to challenge stereotypes around engineering and manufacturing careers.

Project status

Supported by Enginuity through strategic guidance, content planning and amplification, the project balances authenticity with reach, increasing representation and opportunities within the sector.

Since its launch on National Manufacturing Day, the Girls Gone STEM TikTok account has reached over 28,000 people, with engagement strongly concentrated among the intended audience: predominantly UK-based women aged 18–24. Audience interaction has been particularly encouraging, with users actively commenting and sharing content, reinforcing the project’s emphasis on representation and relatability.

Looking ahead, Girls Gone STEM will focus on consolidating learning from the pilot phase and expanding its reach and impact. We expect more case study-style content, more collaborations, and timed campaigns tying in with industry events to increase exposure. Enginuity can use insights from TikTok data to refine the approach, and potentially extend the project beyond social media to other digital engagement.
